EU Delegation to Ukraine: Draft law over NABU, SAPO should be abandoned

The draft law No.7362 on parliamentary control over the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office goes against Ukraine's fight against corruption.

This is said in the statement published on Facebook page of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

"Draft law No.7362 allowing for dismissal of NABU Director and heads of anti-corruption agencies goes against Ukraine's fight against corruption, reforms and Visa Liberalisation Action Plan commitments. The draft law should be abandoned," the statement reads.

It is noted that Ukraine "must should strengthen and not weaken anti-corruption institutions."

As reported, the draft law No.7362 on amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine on provision of parliamentary control, authored by MPs Herasimov and Burbak, was registered in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on December 6. The draft law suggests that the Verkhovna Rada should have the right to consider dismissal of leadership of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation without inspections.
