President Poroshenko vows to hold referendums on joining EU and NATO soon

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko states that the referendums on joining NATO and the European Union will be held in Ukraine in the near future.

President said this at the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine during a solemn ceremony on the occasion of the Day of Prosecutor’s Office, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We are firmly committed to the Euro-Atlantic integration. Do not even doubt that Ukraine will definitely hold referendums on joining NATO and the European Union in the nearest future," Poroshenko said.

President of Ukraine expressed the conviction that the results of those referendums would be as convincingly positive as the result of the referendum on Ukraine's independence in 1991.

As reported, Ukrainians today mark 26th anniversary of the independence referendum. The all-Ukrainian referendum on Ukraine's independence was held in Ukraine on December 1, 1991. Most voters approved the declaration of independence, which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on August 24, 1991.
