U.S. Department of State not rules out lethal weapons supplies to Ukraine

The U.S. Department of State follows the situation in Ukraine very closely and does not rule out possible supplies of defensive weapons to the Ukrainian side.

U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Heather Nauert said this at the press briefing on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Ukraine is a situation that we follow very carefully and very closely," the U.S. Department of State Spokesperson said.

In this regard, she reminded that U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker had been appointed earlier this year and he had already made a lot of trips to Ukraine.

Heather Nauert also underscored the high level of bilateral cooperation between the countries, recalling the visit of President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to Washington and the trip of the U.S. Secretary of State to Kyiv.

Speaking about the prospects for providing lethal assistance, Nauert noted: "We have not yet provided defensive weapons [to Ukraine], but we have not ruled out it either."
