President appoints Truba as SBI director}

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has appointed Roman Truba as director of the State Bureau of Investigations, the press service of the head of state has reported.

"President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree appointing Roman Truba as director of the State Bureau of Investigations," the statement reads.

As reported, the SBI director is appointed by the president under a motion from the prime minister, in accordance with a motion of the competition commission.

On November 16, the commission decided that it would submit a motion to the prime minister regarding Truba's appointment as SBI director.

The State Bureau of Investigations is a law enforcement agency that will investigate crimes committed by law enforcement officers, judges and high-ranking officials, except cases investigated by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau. The SBI will finally take over the function of pre-trial investigation from the prosecutor's office.
