Japan to simplify visa regime for Ukrainians from January 1, 2018

Japan has decided to liberalize a visa regime for Ukrainian citizens.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Kazuyuki Nakane said this at the opening of an exhibition of traditional and modern Japanese art in Kyiv on Thursday, Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Today, the Government decided to take measures to simplify the visa regime for Ukrainian citizens to facilitate the exchange between the two countries," he said.

According to him, starting from January 1, 2018, Ukrainians will be able to obtain a multiple visa for trips to Japan without providing "documents from the guarantor."

Kazuyuki Nakane has stressed that thanks to this liberalization it will be much easier to obtain the visa, and he has expressed hope that more Ukrainians will visit Japan.

The Embassy of Japan in Ukraine explained that this referred to visa requirements for short-term stay for Ukrainian citizens (who have ordinary passports).
