Member of the U.S. Congress: We should prevent recurrence of Holodomor

The artificial famine caused by the Soviet government in Ukraine in 1932-1933, which claimed the lives of about 10 million people, was too high a price for Ukraine on its way to freedom and independence.

Such tragedy should not happen again, U.S. Representative for New Jersey Bill Pascrell said in the U.S. Congress this on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"History repeats itself until we make an effort to stop it," the American legislator said.

He stressed that the State of New Jersey, which he represents in the House of Representatives, recognized the Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-33 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

"We must not allow this to happen again, the Ukrainian people paid too high a price, lost a lot of blood in the struggle for their freedom. I know this because many Ukrainians live in my district," the member of the House of Representatives stressed.

He has also said that the United States supports the desire of the Ukrainian people for independence, remembering the events of the Orange Revolution, the Revolution of Dignity, the armed struggle against the Russian occupation in the east and Russia's attempts to annex Crimea.

"I will never stop making efforts in Congress until Ukraine regains Crimea," the U.S. congressman said.
