President rules out early elections in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that there will be no early elections in Ukraine.

He said this, while speaking at a meeting of the Regional Development Council in Kyiv on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"There will be no early elections," the head of state said.

Poroshenko recalled that less than a year remained before the scheduled process on the elections of the president and the Verkhovna Rada and called for this time to be used as efficiently as possible before a "forced pause in reforms and the risk of growing populism."

As reported, the regular elections of the president of Ukraine should take place in March 2019. The elections to the Verkhovna Rada are scheduled for October 2019.
