Klimkin calls on OSCE representative on media freedom to help free journalists Sushchenko, Semena and Aseev

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin calls on OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir to do everything possible to facilitate the release of the illegally detained Ukrainian journalists, Roman Sushchenko, Mykola Semena and Stanislav Aseev.

He said this during a meeting with Harlem Désir on Friday, October 20, the press service of the Foreign Ministry reported.

"Pavlo Klimkin called on the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media to make maximum use of his mandate to help free Ukrainian journalists, Roman Sushchenko, Mykola Semena and Stanislav Aseev, illegally detained by Russia," the report reads.

Klimkin also stressed Ukraine's commitment to the OSCE commitments in the field of media freedom and noted the importance of careful monitoring by the OSCE representative of the media situation in the occupied Crimea and in the ORDLO, as well as his active involvement in securing the rights and protecting journalists in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

In turn, Désir stressed that the cases of Ukrainian journalists Roman Sushchenko, arrested in Moscow, Mykola Semena, recently convicted in Crimea, Stanislav Aseev, detained in Donetsk, remained in the focus of his attention. In the course of the visit, he also met with Roman Sushchenko’s wife, Angela Sushchenko, and ensured his support in efforts aimed at the journalist’s release.
