Ukraine respects national minorities and their rights but should develop state language – Groysman

Ukraine is a very tolerant country that respects all national minorities and their rights, but we should exert all efforts to develop the state language.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said this in an interview with 112 Ukraina TV Channel, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Ukraine is a multinational state, and we respect national minorities and their languages and rights. But I believe that everyone should respect Ukraine and Ukrainians and respect our language. This will be absolutely constructive in terms of a dialogue and finding the right solutions," Groysman said.

According to him, the law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on Ukrainian education is not a law against someone; this is the law for the quality of education for Ukrainian children, regardless of what national minority they represent.

He assured of openness and readiness for a constructive dialogue and of that our state respects all its partners, neighbors, and friends. "There can be no ultimatum in the issue of our native Ukrainian language, and this is my principled position," the prime minister said.

As Ukrinform reported, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on education on September 5, which, in particular, regulates the use of the Ukrainian language in the education field. The President signed this law on September 25.
