PACE to hold urgent debate on Ukrainian law on education on Thursday

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on October 12 will hold an urgent debate on the new Ukrainian law on education.

The corresponding issue has been included into the agenda of the PACE autumn plenary session, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The members of the national parliaments of Hungary and Poland were the initiators of introducing the issue "The new Ukrainian law on education: a major impediment to the teaching of national minorities' mother tongues" for consideration of the session.

According to parliamentary sources, Polish and Hungarian MPs urged the representatives of the Armenian delegation to support the initiative.

On Wednesday, October 11, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will address the PACE and answer the questions of the deputies.

As Ukrinform reported, the Verkhovna Rada adopted on September 5 the Law of Ukraine "On Education", which, in particular, regulates the use of the Ukrainian language in the field of education. On September 25, President Petro Poroshenko signed this law.
