Sushchenko writes letter of support to Umerov

Ukrinform journalist Roman Sushchenko, who is illegally detained in Russia, has written a letter of support to Ilmi Umerov, illegally sentenced by the invaders.

Mark Feygin, the lawyer of Sushchenko, reported this on Twitter.

"Dear Ilmi, accept my words of support, respect and admiration of your resistance, wisdom and courage. Don't give up. I sincerely believe in your destiny and mission," Sushchenko wrote.

As Ukrinform reported, on September 27, a Kremlin-controlled court in Simferopol sentenced Ilmi Umerov, the leader of the Crimean Tatar movement, to two years in a penal colony. Umerov was also banned from engaging in public activities for two years.

The criminal case against Umerov was opened in 2016 under Article 280.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (public appeals for separatism).
