Poroshenko, Merkel coordinate approaches for implementing initiative on UN peacekeepers in Donbas

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel coordinate approaches for implementing an initiative to deploy a UN peacekeeping operation in Donbas.

Poroshenko and Merkel discussed this during a telephone conversation, the press service of the Head of State reported.

"The parties exchanged views on the development of the situation in Donbas and the state of implementation of the Minsk agreements. In particular, they coordinated approaches for the implementation of the initiative to deploy a UN peacekeeping operation in the occupied part of Donbas and the uncontrolled section of the Ukrainian-Russian border," the report reads.

In addition, Poroshenko stressed the need for immediate steps to prevent the execution of the so-called "verdict" against one of the leaders of the Crimean Tatars, Ilmi Umerov, and the consolidation of the international support to accelerate the resolution of the issue on release of all Ukrainian hostages from Russian captivity.

Poroshenko also congratulated Merkel on the victory of her political party at the parliamentary elections and wished her a successful conclusion of the coalition talks.

"Stability of the whole Europe depends on this victory," the President stressed.
