Ukrainian Foreign Minister Klimkin, EU Commissioner Hahn discuss reforms, cooperation, education law

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn have discussed the prospects for strengthening economic and investment cooperation between Ukraine and the EU.

The press service of the Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry reported this following the meeting, which took place at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

“Pavlo Klimkin informed the EU Commissioner about the progress of reforms in Ukraine and the measures taken by the Government of Ukraine to ensure internal economic stabilization and development. The parties discussed the prospects for strengthening economic and investment cooperation between Ukraine and the EU as well as expanding the possibilities of microlending for Ukrainian business, including involving European and international financial institutions," the statement reads.

As the Foreign Ministry press service reports, Minister Klimkin expressed gratitude to European Commissioner Hahn for the consistent EU sanctions against the Russian Federation and informed about the latest developments in Donbas.

Special attention was paid to the issue of visa liberalization between Ukraine and the EU.

The Foreign Minister of Ukraine also dwelt in detail on the provisions of the recently passed Law of Ukraine "On Education" and confirmed the readiness of Ukraine to submit the law’s article on language of study for examination at the Council of Europe.
