Ukraine, Iceland to deepen political contacts

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and State Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Iceland Stefán Haukur Jóhannesson discuss the issues of deepening political contacts between Ukraine and Iceland.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported.

"One of the main issues was the counteraction of Russian aggression and the need to maintain a regime of European sanctions against the Russian Federation, as well as strengthening of pressure on the Russian side to ensure human rights protection in the temporarily occupied Crimea. In this regard, the attention of the Icelandic side was drawn to numerous violations by Russia of its relevant international and legal obligations," the report reads.

The foreign ministers discussed prospects for the development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, including the use of the mechanisms of the European Free Trade Association.
