UN peacekeepers should be deployed throughout occupied Donbas – U.S. Department of State

The U.S. Department of State states that the UN peacekeeping mission should be deployed throughout the territory of occupied Donbas and not just on the line of conflict.

"Any such force should have a broad mandate for peace and security throughout the occupied territory in Ukraine," State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said.

According to her, such a force could protect Ukrainians of all ethnicities and help restore Ukraine’s sovereignty.

As reported, on September 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin said his country would ask the U.N. Security Council to send peacekeepers to patrol the front line separating Ukrainian troops and Russia-backed separatists.
