Ukraine notifies UN chief of its position on peacekeepers in Donbas

Ukrainian diplomats have notified UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the UN Security Council head of Ukraine's position on a UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbas, Ukraine's Permanent Mission to the United Nations has tweeted.

"We have notified the UN secretary-general and the Security Council head of Ukraine's position regarding the UN peacekeeping mission in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions," reads the statement.

Diplomats posted a photocopy of the statement issued by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on September 5, in which the ministry responded to a statement by the Russian leadership on the possible deployment of UN peacekeepers in the Donbas.

The ministry is convinced that statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the deployment of UN peacekeepers into the contact line in the Donbas distort the very idea of deploying a peacekeeping operation.
