Iryna Lutsenko: President to submit candidate for NBU governor in September

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko until the end of September will submit for parliament’s consideration a candidate for the post of governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

Iryna Lutsenko, president’s representative in parliament, stated this on TV Channel 5.

“Until the end of September, the president will submit for the Verkhovna Rada’s consideration a candidate for the post of governor of the National Bank of Ukraine. Such candidates exist, two candidates… They are bankers ... independent, equidistant from political influence and so on. This candidacy will be submitted until the middle… until the end of the month," Lutsenko said.

As earlier reported, NBU Governor Valeria Gontareva on May 10, 2017 filed a resignation letter. Prior to the appointment of a new NBU governor, First Deputy NBU Governor Yakiv Smoliy fulfills the duties of the central bank governor.
