U.S. Special Representative Volker to visit Kyiv on August 23

U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker will visit Kyiv on August 23, the U.S. Department of State has reported.

"On August 23, he will travel to Kyiv, Ukraine, where he will join Secretary of Defense James Mattis in meetings with senior Ukrainian government officials to discuss next steps in diplomatic negotiations to restore Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," reads the report.

According to the program, on August 21, Volker will travel to Minsk, Belarus, where he will meet with Russian government representative Vladislav Surkov to discuss Russian-Ukrainian relations.

He will then travel to Vilnius, Lithuania, to meet with senior government officials to discuss the way forward in Ukraine.

Mattis will visit Kyiv on Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24. He plans to meet with President Petro Poroshenko and Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak.

Volker was appointed U.S. special representative for Ukraine in early July 2017.
