Poroshenko discusses with Portuguese foreign minister deepening of cooperation between countries

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has held a meeting with Foreign Minister of Portugal Augusto Santos Silva.

This has been reported by the press service of the Head of State.

"The parties discussed future steps to enhance political dialogue between the countries and mutually beneficial cooperation in various spheres," the report reads.

The President thanked the Portuguese party for the comprehensive support of Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and European aspirations. He emphasized the importance of increasing anti-Russian sanctions unless Russia ceases violation of the security conditions of the Minsk agreements.

The parties agreed on the expediency of intensification of bilateral trade and economic interaction, first of all in high-tech sector.

Augusto Santos Silva has noted the positive role of the Ukrainian community in Portugal, which creates a favorable climate for the development of bilateral relations.

Petro Poroshenko praised the recent decision of the Portuguese Parliament to recognize Holodomor in Ukraine of 1932-1933 as an act of genocide against the people of Ukraine and honor memory of the victims of this dreadful tragedy.

The President gratefully accepted the invitation of President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to visit Portugal by the end of 2017.
