Ukraine, EU discuss cooperation on countering cyber threats

Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli discussed during a meeting the issue of cooperation with the EU on countering cyber threats.

In particular, the parties discussed the latest powerful cyberattack on the information resources of Ukraine and the issue of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU on countering cyber threats, the press service of the National Security and Defense Council reported.

"Cooperation in this issue is vital for us because the cybernetic war is one of the dangerous components of Russia's hybrid aggression against our state," Turchynov said adding that the latest attack was the most powerful and directed against the information resources of state structures, the banking sector, subjects of critical infrastructure, and subjects of the economic field of Ukraine.

Turchynov emphasized that despite the hybrid war waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine "we do not stop the process of strengthening our defense capabilities and reforming the security and defense sector of Ukraine in accordance with the NATO standards".

Mingarelli said that for the EU the issue of supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine is a matter of principle. "We support the reforms that are taking place in Ukraine and are ready for active cooperation in countering cyberthreats that constitute a common danger for our countries," he said.
