EU extends economic sanctions against Russia for six months

The European Union has extended for six months the economic restrictive measures imposed on Russia in response to aggression against Ukraine.

The Council of the EU approved this decision on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"On June 28, the Council of the EU extended economic sanctions against certain sectors of the Russian economy until January 31, 2018," the EU leadership said.

As reported, this decision was based on the report made by French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel regarding the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
