Ukraine needs to reform public authorities – Elmar Brok

Ukraine has no other opportunity to show its success to Europe and the world, including Russia and Putin, than to carry out large-scale reforms in all the areas of state and civil life.

Member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Elmar Brok said this at a joint briefing with Head of the European Parliament's Needs Assessment Mission to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Pat Cox and Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"A country at war, which is going through a period of transformation, has no other opportunity to show its success to everyone, including Putin, than to successfully implement the reforms," Brok said.

At the same time, he is convinced that only practical democracy under the rule of law, which will be able to tackle corruption and create an absolutely new country, can make Ukraine successful. To this end, Brok believes, Ukraine primarily needs to reform the public authorities, and this is precisely what the dialogue and cooperation between the European Parliament and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine are aimed at.
