European Parliament calls for more pressure on Russia due to persecution of Ukrainians

The European Parliament has called on the international community to increase pressure on Russia due to unlawful criminal prosecution of Ukrainian citizens on political grounds.

This has been discussed in the European Parliament on Tuesday at an international conference on the problems of Ukrainian political prisoners, who are kept in Russia, an Ukrinform correspondent reported from Brussels.

"Within the LetMyPeopleGo campaign the Open Dialogue Fund and the Center for Civil Liberties call upon the international community to increase pressure on the Russian government to stop politically motivated persecution of Ukrainian citizens in Russia and in occupied Crimea," the organizers of the action said.

These requirements have been supported by MEPs, in particular Mary Lauritsen (Estonia), Petras Austrevicius (Lithuania), Anna Fotyga (Poland).
