Klimkin calls for UN Security Council reform

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has called for the reform of the UN Security Council to prevent its permanent members from abusing the veto power.

This is reported by the Radio Liberty.

"The UN Security Council must be able to make an effective reply to the bloody conflicts, regardless of the possible presence of a party to the conflict at the table as a permanent Security Council member," Klimkin said, speaking at the public debate in the UN Security Council.

As noted by the Ukrainian Minister, the paragraph of the UN Charter saying "a party to a dispute shall abstain from voting" cannot be "further flagrantly neglected." It is necessary to introduce clear procedures for the proper implementation of this article, Klimkin stressed.
