Berlin rests responsibility for situation in eastern Ukraine upon Moscow

Berlin has no doubt that Russia is the prime cause of the current situation in Donbas.

German Federal Government Spokesman Steffen Seibert and German Foreign Ministry Spokesman Martin Schaefer said this at a press briefing in Berlin on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports from Germany.

"There are indications that the primary responsibility for the conflict in eastern Ukraine, which is an important integral part of the territory of the Ukrainian state, rests upon the separatists, who still receive massive support from Russia," Seibert said.

In turn, Schaefer noted that "there is no doubt that the responsibility for the outbreak of the crisis in Ukraine, the annexation of Crimea, and the current situation in eastern Ukraine clearly rests upon Moscow."

Schaefer has also assured that Ukraine’s issue is in the focus of attention of German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel.
