Zhemchuhov, Afanasiev become members of Ukrainian delegation to PACE

Volodymyr Zhemchuhov and Hennadiy Afanasiev, the Ukrainian citizens who were recently released from Russian captivity, were approved as members of the Ukrainian delegation to the PACE session in Strasburg.

First Deputy Verkhovna Rada Chairman and member of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE Iryna Herashchenko wrote this on her Facebook page.

“The Ukrainian delegation [is leaving] for Strasburg for the PACE session. There will be difficult debates on sanctions against the Russian Federation and Russian delegation. The Ukrainian special mission is enforced with Volodymyr Zhemchuhov and Hennadiy Afanasiev,” she wrote.

On October 10-14, the PACE plenary session will take place. The Ukrainian delegation, among other issues, plans to raise the question on the release of illegally arrested Ukrinform journalist Roman Sushchenko.

A reminder that Zhemchuhov was released from the captivity of Russian-backed militants in Donbas on September 17, 2016. Afanasiev retuned in Ukraine from Russia on June 14 of the same year.
