European Parliament waits for EU Council final decision on visa abolition for Ukrainians

The European Parliament waits for the start of negotiations with the EU Council on approval of a final decision on the abolition of visa requirements for Ukrainians as soon as possible.

This has been stated by Bulgarian MEP Maria Gabriel, the rapporteur on this issue, on the results of a successful voting regarding visa liberalization for Ukraine in European Parliament’s Committee, an Ukrinform correspondent reported from Brussels.

"So now the European Parliament waits for the Council to have a very clear position in order to start the interinstitutional negotiations as soon as possible," the MEP said.

She stressed that weaving the visa obligation for Ukrainian citizens who held biometric passports represented a concrete achievement.

"Achievement in our partnership, achievement of our common inspiration for peace, stability and security," Gabriel said.
