Europol, Ukraine to sign cooperation agreement

The Council of the European Union has instructed the European Police Office (Europol) to sign an agreement with Ukraine regarding operational and strategic cooperation.

A corresponding decision was announced at a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs in Brussels on Monday, own Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"According to the agreement, Ukraine is a priority partner in the European Neighborhood Policy, as well as in the Eastern Partnership,” reads a report by the Permanent Representation of the Slovak Republic to the EU.

It is expected that this agreement will be signed at the EU-Ukraine summit, which is to be held until the end of this year.

Also, Bulgarian MEP Mariya Gabriel stressed that such an agreement is very important in the process of granting Ukraine a visa-free regime.
