Germany’s Steinmeier: No breakthrough at today’s Normandy format peace talks

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier says that there was no breakthrough at today’s meeting of foreign ministers of the Normandy format countries in Berlin, although the atmosphere was better than during their last meeting in Paris.

The German foreign minister told reporters following the meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Herault, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Ukrinform’s own correspondent in Germany report.

“Discussions were complicated. But the atmosphere was better than in Paris,” he said.

According to the German foreign minister, “positions of the sides still differ,” but at the same time the parties managed to achieve some success, in particular, to discuss security issues.

"Security isn't everything in eastern Ukraine, but there can't be anything without security and so I'm quite satisfied with this part of the talks today," he added.
