Ukraine’s representative in Trilateral Contact Group: No discussions of elections in Donbas so far

Leonid Kuchma, ex-president of Ukraine, the representative of Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group, has said that Kyiv will not discuss elections in the militant-controlled territories of Donbas until Ukraine regains full control of these territories.

Kuchma said this in Kyiv on Friday, Radio Liberty reports.

"There should be no discussion of elections until the Ukrainian government regains control there [in Donbas] and until the border is fully controlled by Ukraine," he said.

Kuchma stressed that strict adherence to the Minsk agreement was the basis for negotiations on holding elections in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
