France, Germany want to step up international presence in Donbas

France and Germany, members of the Normandy format to settle the situation in eastern Ukraine, are considering the possibility of establishing an additional mechanism for international presence in Donbas.

This was announced by François Delattre, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, during the UN Security Council meeting on Thursday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"There is a need for an additional international presence on the ground [in Donbas] under the auspices of the OSCE. We and our German colleagues are thinking about the establishment of such a mechanism," Delattre said.

He stressed that France and Germany were committed to settling the crisis in Ukraine, restorating its sovereignty and the integrity of borders and promised to continue efforts within the framework of the Normandy format.
