Crimean Tatar Mejlis leader: Blockade of Crimea fulfilled its task

The leader of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and Ukrainian MP Refat Chubarov says that the organizers of a series of blockades of Crimea achieved what they set out to do.

“I am saying that the main tasks, which the participants in the blockade set, have been achieved,” Chubarov said in an interview with Ukrinform.

According to him, the first thing that the organizers of the blockade tried to achieve was to return the Crimean topic to the agenda of Ukraine's domestic and foreign policy. “We have significantly succeeded in this,” he said.

Secondly, Crimean Tatars called on the Ukrainian government to introduce a range of sanctions. And at present Ukraine does not supply food products to occupied Crimea, Chubarov said.

In addition, the blockade forced Russia to spend more funds on Crimea, on its maintenance, and the energy blockade made a special contribution to this, Chubarov noted.
