Merkel urges stepping up preparations for elections in Donbas

German Chancellor Angela Merkel believes there is a need to step up preparations for holding elections in Donbas.

Merkel said this after the meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama, French President Francois Hollande, British Prime Minister David Cameron, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in the German city of Hanover on Monday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports from Germany.

"We should now work primarily on electoral law," Merkel said.

According to her, the parties to the Normandy format applied "very intensive efforts to really advance the political process and to hold elections."

The German Chancellor stressed that the Normandy format should continue its work. "The Normandy Four closely coordinates its actions with the United States," Merkel added.
