PACE says Crimea is not a 'frozen conflict’

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) doesn’t consider the situation with Crimea to be a “frozen conflict”.

Chairman of PACE Monitoring Committee Stefan Schennach said this in an interview with DW.

“We believe that the notion of ‘territorial integrity of Ukraine’ includes Donbas region. As to Crimea, then negotiations of another kind are needed there. At present we do not consider Crimea as a frozen conflict, we would like to prevent it from entering this stage,” he said.

As to Donbas, according to Schennach, PACE believes that Russia wants to separate it from Ukraine, “however it is trying to separate Crimea”.
