Merkel, Hollande, Poroshenko demand release of Savchenko

Angela Merkel, François Hollande and Petro Poroshenko have put forward a joint demand to immediately release Nadiya Savchenko.

German federal government spokesman Steffen Seibert said this to reporters after the trilateral meeting of the leaders in Brussels on Thursday evening, an Ukrinform correspondent in Germany reports.

"German Chancellor and presidents Poroshenko and Hollande jointly demanded the immediate release and return to Ukraine of Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko currently being held in Russia," Seibert said.

Apart from the release of Savchenko, the parties discussed the issue of elections in Donbas, "stressing the need for holding the elections in certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in accordance with the Minsk Agreements." Safety during the elections should be guaranteed, they noted.
