Ukraine is in final phase of visa liberalization with EU - senior EU diplomat

The EU is awaiting the implementation by Ukraine in the first quarter of all obligations in order to submit a legislative motion on the liberalization of visa requirements for Ukrainian nationals.

Deputy Secretary General for the External Action Service Helga Schmid told a closing session of the "Week of Ukraine" in the European Parliament, the Ukrinform’s own correspondent in Brussels reports.

"We are nearing the completion of the visa liberalization road. The steps taken this year are now being reviewed, and the European Commission is preparing a legislative proposal," said the senior diplomat of the EU.

She noted the progress made by the Ukrainian leadership as to its commitments for visa liberalization. However, Schmid reminded several issues on combating corruption remain unaddressed.
