Foreign Ministry: Kremlin repeats Soviet-era repressions of Crimean Tatars

The Kremlin-appointed authorities in the occupied Crimea repeat awful Soviet-era repressions of the 1930s and the genocide of the Crimean Tatars of 1944, reads a statement by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

"By roughly violating the rights and freedoms of people, who due to Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine have become hostages of the Russian occupation regime in their homeland, the Kremlin in the 21st century repeats terrible Soviet repressions of 1930s, as well as the genocide of the Crimean Tatars in 1944,” reads the statement.

The Foreign Ministry also expressed deep concern about illegal activities of the Russian occupational forces against Crimean Tatars in Crimea, which led to massive illegal searches and groundless detentions of Ukrainian citizens - representatives of the Crimean Tatar people on February 11-13.

The ministry also called on the whole democratic world to “strengthen joint pressure on the occupier country, as what is taking place in occupied Crimea is not only a crude violation of international laws, but also total disregard of all human values”.
