Pyvovarsky: Monthly salary of ministry officials must be at least UAH 25,000

Civil servants in ministries excluding the minister and his deputies should receive at least UAH 25,000 in a monthly salary and benefits package.

Minister of infrastructure Andriy Pyvovarsky told TV viewers of ICTV "Freedom of Speech" program, Ukrinform reports.

"Taking into account the risks that ministers and ministries face, and given that the workload now, they must receive absolutely salaries comparable to the private job market... The average salary excluding a minister and deputy ministers should be set at least UAH 25,000 per one month with benefits package and health insurance," said the infrastructure minister.

According to him, the issues of fair market wage for civil servants today "are critical in order to change the quality of decisions and motivate the teams."

He noted that his "resources rich" ministry where civil servants receive lousy salaries, while "they oversee large monetary volumes of businesses with annual cost totaling UAH 100 billion a year."
