Parliament approves justice reform in first reading

The Parliament of Ukraine has preliminary approved the revised bill No. 3524 on the amendments to the Constitution relating to justice.

The relevant decision was supported by 244 MPs, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The Parliament’s sitting was attended by chairpersons of the parliaments of Estonia, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Lithuania, Norway, Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Latvia.

The bill contains provisions about the liquidation of judges' immunity from prosecution, the automatic dismissal of judges who fail to pass re-certification, significantly increases the transparency in the selection of judicial personnel and significantly increases the responsibility of judges for the miscarriage of justice.
