Shevchenko’s rare book sold for 8.5 mln rubles in Russia

A rare book, the first edition of “Hamaliya” poem by Taras Shevchenko, was sold in Russia for 8.5 million rubles at an auction where books on Russian-Ukrainian relations were introduced.

The press service of the Litfund Auction House reported.

“Rare books with Taras Shevchenko’s works again became the most popular at the auction. Thus, the most notable lot was a rare book – “Hamaliya” poem, published in St. Petersburg in 1844. “Hamaliya” poem, in which Taras Shevchenko glorified the Cossack courage, was sold for 8.5 million rubles, while the starting price was half a million rubles,” reads a report.
