Advisors to Merkel and Hollande concern over cease-fire violations in Donbas

Federal Chancellor's Advisor on Foreign and Security Policy Christoph Heusgen and Diplomatic Advisor to the French President Jacques Audibert at a meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko have expressed concerns over numerous cease-fire violations by Russian-backed militants in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) area in Donbas.

“Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with Federal Chancellor's Advisor Christoph Heusgen and Diplomatic Advisor to the French President Jacques Audibert in line with the ongoing agreements achieved during the last phone call between the leaders of Ukraine, Germany and France. The sides expressed concerns over numerous violations of the cease-fire regime and the impeding of OSCE work by the militants,” according to the president's press service.

Poroshenko, in turn, thanked representatives of Germany and France for “a very important role” they play in the de-occupation of a part of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as the continuation of non-recognition policy of annexation of Crimea.

The parties also highlighted the progress Ukraine achieved in the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the importance of coordinating joint efforts for their complete fulfillment. Among key elements, the officials noted the steady cease-fire regime, the withdrawal of Russian troops and equipment, the resumption of Ukraine’s control over the border and the release of hostages.
