Acting Polish Ambassador to Ukraine to remain in Kyiv for another year

Current Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine Henryk Litwin, who had to return to Poland as his term of office came to an end, will hold his post for another year.

Witold Waszczykowski, the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs said in an interview with the PAP, a Poland's newsagency.

“The decision was made regarding Ukraine: I asked acting Polish Ambassador in Ukraine Henryk Litwin to remain [on his post] at least till the next summer. This is connected with the situation in Ukraine, and we don’t know how it will develop. Due to this, we can’t afford ourselves experiments and changes,” Waszczykowski said.

As to the issue of cooperation with Ukraine, the Polish Foreign Minister noted that Warsaw wants “to save the process of transformation and democratization of Ukraine, because the more democratic it is and the more it cooperates with the West, the safer Poland will be”.

As a reminder, by the end of the current year Polish Ambassador Litwin had to be replaced by former Polish Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson and former journalist at Gazeta Wyborcza, Marcin Wojciechowski.
