EU again calls on Russia to release Sentsov and Kolchenko

The European Union again states that criminal cases against Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia, Oleg Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko, are violation of the international law, and calls on Russia to immediately release them.

The European External Action Service made a relevant statement on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent in Brussel reports.

“The EU considers the cases to be in breach of international law and elementary standards of justice. The EU continues to call on the Russian Federation to immediately release Mr Sentsov and Mr Kolchenko and to guarantee their safe return to Ukraine,” the statements reads.

As a reminder, the Russian Supreme Court on November 24 upheld the convictions of Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov and of his co-defendant Ukrainian activist Oleksandr Kolchenko, who were arrested in May 2014.
