President declares 2016 the year of English language}

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on decaling 2016 the Year of English language in Ukraine, the president’s website reports.

According to the decree, Poroshenko took a relevant decision “taking into account a role of English as the language of international communication, in order to facilitate learning of the English language to widen citizens' access to the world's economic, social, educational and cultural opportunities, to ensure Ukraine's integration into European political, economic, scientific and educational sector, in support of the Go Global, which defines learning English a priority of the development strategy. "

Thus, the Cabinet of Ministers was instructed to elaborate and approve a complex of measures for 2016 and the following years aimed at promoting English studying in Ukraine. In particular, the government is to organize English language courses at higher education establishments and assist in enlarging of subjects taught in English at universities, and increase English studying groups at out-of-school establishments.

In addition, it is necessary to organize English language competitions, and develop mutual exchange of pupils and students among education establishments of Ukraine and foreign states, where English is the main language of communication. Ukrainian general education institutions should take active part in the EU program "E-Twinning Plus."
