Law on elections in Donbas to be adopted by end of year, says Chernenko

Rada will adopt law on elections in Donbas after it determines the way of holding local elections.

Oleksandr Chernenko, an MP from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, the ex-head of the voters committee of Ukraine said this, the Ukrainian service of BBC reports.

“Our task is to approve a qualitative law. To adopt [the law] before the new year so that the Minsk agreements be observed by the Ukrainian side. We will start drafting the law approximately after the local elections,” the MP said.

According to him, during preparations for the elections in Donbas it is necessary to take into consideration the following factors: the participation of parties in elections, the administration of elections by the Ukrainian commission, the access for Ukrainian mass media, the possibility to vote for settlers, and the prohibition to vote for those persons who are accused of serious crimes.

As a reminder, it was agreed to start drafting new election law during the ‘Normandy four’ meeting in Paris.
