President voices ‘leaders’ of bribery

Almost every day corrupt officials are being arrested in Ukraine. In particular, over 500 officials have been brought to account over the last two months.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said this during an opening speech at a meeting of the Anti-Corruption Council, Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Notorious corruption scandals and disclosures, resonance detentions are taking place almost every day. More than 500 people were brought to account over the last two months. The leaders are Kyiv city, Dnipropetrovsk region, Odesa, Zakarpattia, Kharkiv, Lviv, and Donetsk regions,” Poroshenko said.

According to him, sentences have been already imposed to 492 people, some of whom have been already imprisoned.

The president stressed that such detentions of bribe takers are the evidence of political will on fighting corruption in the state.

“This is unprecedented amount of cases which are currently being in the process of consideration. I’m sure that this will be properly carried out,” Poroshenko said.
