Russian fake: Denmark “reclaims” F-16 jets transferred to Ukraine to deploy them to Greenland

Russian propagandists have fabricated the audio track of a video from a local Danish television channel.

Russian media outlets, Telegram channels, and bots on the social network X are spreading a video bearing the logo of the Danish TV company TV2 Nord. In the clip, the presenter, citing “sources” in Denmark’s Ministry of Defense, claims that Danish F-16 fighter jets previously transferred to Ukraine will allegedly be recalled and redeployed to defend Greenland amid U.S. territorial claims over the island.

This is fake. Propagandists used editing software to replace the audio track of one of the broadcasts featuring TV2 Nord presenter Pia Beltoft.

There is no news about Ukraine allegedly having its F-16s taken away and sent to Greenland on the official website of the TV channel or on its social media pages. There are also no mentions of this on the official resources of Denmark’s Ministry of Defense.

TV2 Nord is a local media outlet broadcasting in the northern regions of Denmark and the Faroe Islands. The vast majority of its news coverage focuses on local events. While the outlet has a section on its website dedicated to the war in Ukraine, it contains very few related stories. The channel mainly focuses on entertainment content rather than political or global news.

There are also no mentions of such a transfer on journalist Beltoft’s social media accounts. Her most recent public post on Facebook dates back to 2024.

Denmark is indeed strengthening its military presence in Greenland amid tensions with the United States, including the deployment of F-16 aircraft. However, these jets are being drawn from Denmark’s own reserves, not withdrawn from Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Denmark continues to transfer F-16s to Ukraine and has already delivered 12 of the 19 fighter jets it pledged.

The disinformation spread by Russian propagandists is aimed at creating a false narrative of “fatigue” among Western allies in supporting Ukraine amid their own challenges.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, Russian propaganda earlier circulated fake videos to discredit Ukrainians in France.
