Photo fake: Boris Johnson and Ivan Franko National University professors give ‘Nazi salute’ in Lviv

Russian propaganda created a photo fake

The Kremlin media and z-Telegram channels of military reporters are distributing a photo showing former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson together with representatives of the Ukrainian professorship who allegedly gave a Nazi salute as the politician was awarded the title of honorary doctor of the Ivan Franko National University.

This is a fake. Russian propagandists fabricated the photo using Photoshop. In the original photo, Ukrainian scientists placed their hands over their hearts, while Boris Johnson's hands are down.

It is also worth noting that the Nazi salute is prohibited by the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Article 436, Chapter XX) as public use of the symbols of the totalitarian Nazi regime.

On September 9, 2023, Boris Johnson visited Ukraine, in particular the city of Lviv. In the course of his visit, he honored the memory of the fallen defenders and heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, visited a military hospital and a rehabilitation center for wounded soldiers, met with rectors and students of universities in Lviv region, and received the title of honorary doctor of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

Earlier, Russian propaganda shared a fake video of a "Ukrainian" setting fire to a California DNA center over Nazism.
