Poland intercepts Russian Il-20 aircraft over Baltic Sea
Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft was intercepted over the Baltic Sea on Monday.
According to Ukrinform, Polish Radio reported this.
The Russian Il-20 aircraft was intercepted by a pair of Polish fighter jets on duty. The incident occurred on Monday morning, approximately 60 kilometers from the Polish city of Leba on the Baltic Sea.
Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that the aircraft did not violate Polish airspace.
“The aircraft was flying in international airspace without a flight plan and with its transponder turned off,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
The minister emphasized that the Polish military constantly monitors the country’s security and takes appropriate measures when necessary.
As reported by Ukrinform, on Friday, Polish F-16 fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 electronic intelligence aircraft over the Baltic Sea, which was flying without a flight plan and with its transponder turned off.
