Child killed as police vehicle hits two pedestrians in Pryluky
Ukraine's National Police opened an internal investigation into a fatal road accident in the city of Pryluky, Chernihiv region, in which a child was killed. The officers involved have been suspended from duty.
The National Police's main directorate in the Chernihiv region said this in a statement seen by Ukrinform.
"The National Police launched an internal investigation into the fatal accident in Pryluky; police officers have been removed from duty," the statement said.
According to preliminary information, a response team of the patrol police, driving to a call in a Mitsubishi Outlander patrol vehicle with its emergency lights on, struck two pedestrians on a signal-controlled crosswalk. A woman was injured, and a child died.
The National Police leadership immediately initiated an internal investigation. The officers have now been suspended from performing their duties.
Deputy Head of the National Police Serhii Kobets and senior officials from the agency's Main Inspectorate Department travelled to the scene.
